I’ll Give You No Baseball Allowed
KC had been tons of fun and we hadn’t even had our clinic with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of KC yet! We had scheduled to hold the event at Shawnee Park in Kansas City, Kansas on Thursday, July 12. Rain during the day threatened to ruin our first event as we knocked down some Oklahoma Joe’s for lunch, but it cleared up for us as we arrived at the park. Even though we found this sign in the outfield, we felt it was a little out of place considering it was posted ON a baseball field. So sue us.

We were hoping this guy would come out and provide the teaching as the official spokesperson of the BBBS in KC. But he was preparing for the second half of the season.
No matter! Jon Hile of BBBS-KC provided pizzas, Chase’s Uncle provided the sno-cones and B4B provided the fun!
In KC, we grabbed a golf club to bring to our first event to be a part of the evening. Now, this golf club, wasn’t going to help us TEACH the game of baseball, but it was going to allow us to provide some exclusive video of the excellent diving attempts made by these kids in our ESPN highlight reel station! We use a GoPro to catch most of our video footage, but using it as a hand-held camera is so limiting. Provided the reach with our “new” extension, the golf club, we could really provide in-your-face footage! It’s also great to capture stills from the video and produce great moments like this one!
Just like in our St. Louis event, we had a lot of family and supporters in the stands cheering on the BBBS kids for their first career hits. Thanks to Katie and Elisha from VisitKC for coming out and showing the B4B love!
The KC kids had a lot of fun with their first game of baseball. We had several young’uns and only two had ever played before! New introductions all over the place with another Biking for Baseball event!
The Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City is one of the best youth mentoring programs in the country. Kansas Citians, I know you’re waiting for your moment to shine, this is it! Go out and be a volunteer today. Pay it forward to the community that developed you into the person you’ve become. And then next year, when we come back, you can join in on the fun with us at a Biking for Baseball and BBBS event. Hi-5 to everyone EVERYWHERE!
