Bike Sharing

I’d like to give a shout out to one of the B4B crews’ hometown of Minneapolis and its progressive biking initiatives. Aside from recently attaining the position of top bike-friendliest city in the country, and having over130 miles of trails and streets with bicycle lanes, Minneapolis should really be recognized for its one-of-a-kindbike sharing program. For a small annual rate, or per-ride fee, you can go to any number of the conveniently located bike “kiosks” and grab a bike to cruise the town. Say you want take a ride around the lakes, grab a bike and get movin’. Say you want to bar hop before the Twins game, grab a bike located near your current bar and drop it off at the location nearest your destination bar. With over 60 locations around town (with 135 more in the works), you can return the bike to any one of them. Several locations are located near Target Field, so no need to worry that you got the bike from a kiosk in Uptown, you can return it anywhere.

Nice Ride!

The B4B crew thinks the Nice Ride bike sharing program is awesome. This gets people on bikes and promotes activity. Perhaps people will get on one of these bikes and remember how great it is to power oneself down the road, they will commit to biking for transportation themselves. Maybe they will go to the local bike store and get the equipment needed to bike to work. Maybe they’ll begin to influence others on the benefits of biking. Although we at B4B haven’t used the bike sharing program (we ride our own bikes to Twins games), we applaud Minneapolis for being very forward thinking when it comes to biking programs.
