Baseball with BBBS of Orange County
Cinco de Mayo celebrations were in full swing on Saturday with families filling up local parks in Anaheim and the smell of BBQ in the air. We had a great game of baseball at Miles Square Park in Anaheim with 11 matches from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County coming out to spend a couple of hours with the Biking for Baseball team. With great weather in our forecast it was a perfect day to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, youth mentoring and baseball!
The day’s action pitted the Hot-Doggers (managed by Steve) versus Super Cool (managed by Chase). It was an action-packed, high scoring game that finished knotted up at 8 when it was time to go home. Bud Selig made a short appearance to end the game a tie, even though the teams wanted to carry on!
We had several first-time players out on the diamond today. Robert, Fernando, Jocelyn, Marianna, Blaine and Jason were all rookies. But they are rookies no more!
Jocelyn was the biggest surprise to the fantasy baseball world. Surely nobody had her on their roster heading into the game. She cracked cracked two huge hits, finished with four total bases and even made her way around the bases to score her first run!
It was pretty neat seeing her learn so much so quickly, doing it with a smile on her face and applying the fundamentals she had learned in warm-ups to the actual game.
Thank you to Jessica Rosales and Dodgers on Demand for coming out with the camera crew and conducting interviews of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Orange County’s employees and volunteers. Your Biking for Baseball team will be doing interviews with Jessica tonight (May 7th) at the Dodgers game!
Become a Big with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Orange County TODAY! Their agency here is fantastic, filled with great employees such as Diana and Mabel, who came out to the event on Saturday. Melissa, Joanna, Lili and Liliana all helped put this event together from the start and we couldn’t of done it without them. Thanks team!
