Bring the heat!
Well, another day is in the books. Another day filled with miles, scenery, and more. California is gorgeous. Fortunately, today was filled with numerous cities that I biked through, compared to yesterday when I didn’t find a single city during my ride.
I rode throughout the entire day, and ended up logging my longest day yet. In total, I tallied up 110 miles. I was flying. I felt good, and I added miles on to my route. A nice tailwind didn’t hurt either, but I had a great average pace of 12.7 mph. By far my best yet.
Tonight, I’m staying with Barbara, a contact who reached out about hosting me after hearing about my trip from her sister Lynne. She spoiled me way too much, just like all the other hosts on the trip. After the long ride, Barbara immediately fed me a huge dinner. She knew I needed to eat. A lot. In fact, after dinner, she drove me around Santa Ynez and even to Michael Jackson’s former estate. Pretty cool! I love seeing all of these different towns, hearing different stories, and meeting the people who call them home. Oh, and then Barbara treated me to second dinner. Yes, it’s a new thing. You better check it out. Actually, you should probably bike at least 70 miles before doing that. Otherwise the scale will be your worst enemy. Thanks to another round of incredible hosts!
Unfortunately, for whatever reason today, I did not take any good photos. Nothing special. I don’t know what got into me. Must be the heat, it got hot. Really hot. 85 degrees. I’m less than a month removed from the brutal Wisconsin winter, so my Vitamin D deficient skin is getting its butt kicked by the California sun. Sunscreen helps, but it’s a losing battle. The tanlines are coming in. Strong. It’s unavoidable. Definitely no beach time for me this summer.
Well that about does it. It’s a short blogpost today, but I’m ready to hit the sack. I got another day of biking, and San Diego is approaching rapidly. Until next time folks!
