Surfs Up

 In Uncategorized

Today was another day of biking. Another long day of biking. Not that I’m complaining. It’s another day of biking along the gorgeous Southern California coast. Filled with surfers, beach goers, and tons of sun.

I started off the morning right. Thanks to Elizabeth, who graciously treated me to a wonderful breakfast at her local establishment of choice. An omellete was just what I needed to fuel my long ride to Solana Beach.

The morning was relatively uneventful. Filled with riding through different California coastal towns. I eventually went by the University of California-Irvine before heading back to the coast after a short detour inland. Later on, I got a big tailwind and spoke with Ben and Amanda as we rode along the coast. Coincidentally, they both were from Wisconsn, and were a blast to talk with. Every once in a while, it’s just great to ride with others. I talk to myself a lot while riding, nothing too crazy, but sometimes it’s nice to talk with other people beside yourself.

Today, I also noticed the most amount of surfers. They were everywhere. Thousands of them along the ride. It seemed like everyone was out trying to catch the big wave. From young and old, woman and man, it was great to see people heading out to the deep blue sea. It’s something I’ve never experienced, but it’s really cool to see first hand.

I also had to ride through an active military base. Fortunately, I just had to show my ID to get clearance and rode on through. It was a nice ride, and before I knew it I met up with Lynne who was putting me up in a hotel in Solana Beach. I met Lynne during my last ride to West Palm Beach, FL three years ago. We’ve been great friends ever since, and she’s one of Biking for Baseball’s biggest supporters! It’s a blast to have people like this who go out of the way to treat me with generousity and kindness. Thanks so much for everything Lynne!

I’ve learned how great this tour is. Right when the bicycle touring begins to get tough. Trust me, it’s not easy to get up everyday and spend all day on your bike. It’s tough. Both mentally and physically. However, right when it’s getting old, I get to watch a baseball game. Tomorrow, I’ll head to Petco Park to catch the Padres play. I can’t wait. Maybe, I’ll start to get sick of watching baseball. Who am I kidding? I will never get sick of watching baseball.

Well I’m off to bed, I’ve got a few miles to bike to Petco, before I return in the evening for the ballgame. It’ll be a great day of biking and baseball. You can’t ask for anything much better. Have a great night.
